Please note the following : This list of roms describes what is the most current known revision for the following Williams/Bally games according to the rec.games.pinball readership. This information is not guranteed to be correct. If you are in need of an update, please email Jonathan Deitch for more information on how to obtain the appropriate software for your particular game.

ROM updates cannot be transferred via the Internet due to copyright and legal considerations.

However, Williams' new Web site *does* have official downloads available for many late model (and hopefully soon, more and older) games. These are the true vanilla, straight from the manufacturer !

Rom Designations

Prior to Theatre of Magic, ROM revisions are integer numbers, starting at 1.

Starting with Theatre of Magic, Williams is using a decimal based revision number where 0-0.99 are prototype ROMs and 1.00+ are production ROMs.

ROM Types :

P : Prototype
L : Production
F : Fliptronic. Party Zone only.
H : Home (Custom ROMs for home use or test purposes)
Please note : H-x roms are not official releases !

ROM SubTypes :

A : American (US and Canada. No single coin play starting with TZ)
X : e(X)port (Newer games, WPC era)
G : German games (System 11 era)
F : French games
B : Belgium and Switzerland (post Indy 500 WPC Games)
U : United Kingdom games (System 11 era)
R : Regular release. This replaces A and X designations on Indy 500 and newer games.

A quick note on the Addams Family ... The newest official production software for TAF is L5. According to sources, L6 and L7 editions do exist, but they are actually older than L5. The home version, H4, is newer than L5.

CPU / Game Designations

CPU Types :

System 9 : Early 1980s. 6802 based, four numeric displays.
System 11,A,B,C : Mid to late 1980's. 6802 based. Two alphanumeric displays, two numeric displays; then two 16-digit alphanumeric displays.
WPC : 6809 based Williams Pinball Controller, 128x32 dot matrix.
WPC-A : 6809 based WPC, two 16 digit alphanumeric displays.
WPC-2 : 6809 based WPC, 128x32 dot matrix, with PIC security chip.
WPC95 : 6809 based WPC, includes consolidation of sound/dot matrix PCBs.

Game Classes :

5xx : 1980's Williams pinball machines. System 9 and 11.
19xx : 1980's System 11 based skill games.
20xx : Bally games produced after the Wms/Bally merger, but prior to Harley Davidson.
100xx : Skill Games produced after the merger.
200xx : Bally games produced after the merger. Not used anymore.
400xx : Midway video games
500xx : Williams games produced after the merger. Used now for both lines.
600xx : Merchandise games produced after the merger.
900xx : Token Pins (ie: Safecracker ...).
The "xx" above indicates the game's individual project number.
